I'd love you to do a story on digital ID. I want to change accountants, and the new accountant told me I must get a digital ID for him to be able to do it, to get access to my ATO link. He told me all companies, partnerships and trusts must get one for all new clients. Sole traders and individuals don't have to. I told him isn't it voluntary, he told me the government said I have to. I'm trying to find a way to get my tax done and not get a digital ID.

I think it inevitable that, given the indifferences of our fellow citizens, our wise rulers will succeed in rolling out a Digital ID but also feel that they really dont need to because they already have the surveillance power to stitch together everything they desire to know about our movements, finances, thoughts and actions if they chose to - or to simply buy it off Big Tech.

I concentrate instead on knowing how to maintain privacy for transactions and interactions that matter .... cash, barter, face to face contacts, phone in quarantine when I really dont want eavesdropping etc. As the Taliban used to say 'the cure for high technology is low technology' - concentrate on face to face interactions in your local community to build trustworthy relationships - regard the electronic world as artificial and hazardous.
